Don’t Know a Rainbow Trout from a Brookie? Don’t Feel Bad

Sure, you may not be able to tell a brookie from a brown, but at least you didn’t pay $1200 for a poodle, only to discover you’d bought a lamb.

This from Spluch: Dog owners ‘fleeced’ in poodle scam

Thousands of people have been ‘fleeced’ into buying neatly coiffured lambs they thought were poodles.

Entire flocks of lambs were shipped over from the UK and Australia to Japan by an Internet company and marketed as the latest ‘must have’ accessory.

But the scam was only spotted after a leading Japanese actress said her ‘poodle’ didn’t bark and refused to eat dog food.

We’re going to hammer the Mainstream Media with wall-to-wall coverage of… (wait for it)… PoodleGate! (You can’t manufacture a big scandal without a catchy title)

Thank god for the rest of the planet; otherwise we’d have to make this stuff up.

Ok, that’s enough - now we are posting porn pictures for Wally the WonderBeast.

The only redeeming thought, is that your leg is closer to Wally than mine is…

I’m honestly not sure how the Wonderdog feels about interspecies dating.

And sure, the Wonderdog may be a dumb (yet enthusiastic) animal, but then he’s never been bamboozled into paying $1200 for a lamb either…

    Unrelated:
Various tribes, commercial fishermen and Friends of the River are holding a rally on the south steps of the state Capitol to urge the removal of the Klamath dams. This kicks off their trip to Omaha, Nebraska, Warren Buffet’s (PacifiCorp owner) headquarters.

The tribes have a traditional fishing boat on display, as well as literature describing the problem. I think they are taking a good route by selling the dams as a bad investment, rather than the environmental aspect. That will likely resonate better with Buffet and other owners.

The event is occurring right now, too bad I had little advance notice.

WOW…This solidifies my belief that we live in a world full of idiots. Probably 70% of our society are incompetant and I am supprised they can actually draw air into thier enlarged heads. Also how can you possibly not know the difference between a brookie and a rainbow or brown. A Brook Trout is not even a “Trout” it is an “Arctic Char” so the name decieves as well. Anyway sorry for the rant, I just got my butt chewed by a client that ordered some product and it is now my fault because he ordered it incorrectly.AHHHHH! Sheep? Poodles? I need a scotch!!!!

At first I thought it was a ploy by the Japanese EPA to get poodles off their endangered species list, like counting hatchery Salmon as wild once they are in the water. However, it appears theere is no such conspiracy and that this is a just hoax…

Kevin: Yeah, here’s a link to a story about the demonstration in Sacramento. As for investment vs environment, there’s almost no difference in this instance; the economic value of a healthy salmon run would easily outstrip that of the energy produced. The problem is, there’s no mechanism for making that part of the decision making process…

    Clay: Deep breaths, buddy.

Steve: A hoax, and apparently a profitable one. I like the story about the actress bringing hers on television and getting outed in public view…

Regarding the various river issues going on right now, if one were to write a letter to a state legislator (especially your own representatives), you could be pretty certain you would get a response. It might not be the response you are after, but many lawmakers really do read the letters they get and it helps make them aware of our issues.

    The non-crazy letters, that is.

Tom, I don’t mean a hoax as in a scam, i.e., a profitable one. I mean a hoax as in the story is not true, didn’t happen, its fiction, etc…

I went out for a day with Ian Rutter about two weeks ago while in TN. I told him I was a regular reader of your blog. He mentioned something about your streamer fishing abilities. The fact that I read your blog did not however, get me the free hat or coffee mug I was coveting. It was however, a great day.

Yes a “brook trout” is actually a member of the Charr genus. So are Lake Trout, Bull Trout, and Dolly Varden for that matter.

Steve: Ian gets a lot of mileage out of my unfortunate “knocking on death’s door but bravely fishing on anyway” streamer story (that’s my version), but while he’s free with the embarrassing narrative, he’s no pushover in the giveaways department.

Hell, even I haven’t gotten the coveted R&R hat, coffee mug — or even the just-announced R&R Fly Fishing Slaw Dog — but I sense a turning of the tides.

I’ll have more access to Charity Rutter than in past years, so my ability to gather embarrassing intelligence about Ian will be greatly enhanced…
