Airstream Delivers the Latest "Must-Have" Outdoor Tool You Can’t Afford

Via the never-sarcastic crew at GetOutdoors (who got it from the NY Times), we learn of yet another way to get away from it all by leaving absolutely none of it behind

Design Within Reach, the furniture retailer, is collaborating with Airstream to develop a trailer for the mobile young modernist —“rock climbers, surfers, dot-com guys,” said Christopher Deam, the San Francisco architect in charge of the project, “who want to work anywhere with cellphones and wi-fi connections.”

I’m not sure how many rock climbers or surfers could afford a $50,000 glam trailer — even one with built in wi-fi — but I’m reasonably certain you’d get your ass kicked if you showed up at the climber’s village in Yosemite in one of these things.

I’m still waiting for the camper with the built-in rod racks, fly tying nook, wader hangers, mobile insect collectors, “thousand fingers massage” bed (for when I’ve fished too hard and can’t get out of bed), and built-in chef/valet/servant (because I’m lazy).

That might be worth 50 grand.

Of course, with Airstream still unable to provide a replacement window to Chris Raine nearly a year after he broke one, you’ve gotta wonder how you’d get parts for this baby after your fishing buddies demolished it after a night of drinking.

The Undergrounders, of course, are free to suggest other amenities. I’m sure the RV world is listening with bated breath.

See you at the trailer park, Tom Chandler.

Come fish with me……………………the Turnip Truck has all of the above……..err, well, it doesn’t have one of those “thousand fingers massagers,” but I’ve found that cold beers work just as well.

Yeah, but I’ll bet it doesn’t have all the “designer fabrics” and the Jetsons-style wall clock…

You just can’t go fishing without designer fabrics. There’s no point…

I needed one of these tin cans last summer… I could have installed my own rod rack.

    Luca! Is that you? Yep.

Ladies and gentleman, may I present Luca Adelfio — last year’s “Luckiest man in fly fishing.”

He’s the intrepid blogger who traveled around the whole country and wrote about it for Trout Unlimited’s blog.

I interviewed him and intended to write a story, but sadly the story sat unwritten (along with the four-dozen other essays and story ideas I haven’t found time to write).

What are you up to? TU doing the blog thing this year?

TU decided against continuing the blog…

I’ll still be squeezing fish for TU, though. They’ve hired me to collect field data on migratory Bonneville cutthroat trout in the Bear River system, UT/ID/WY. There are 20-25 inch cuttys down there that aren’t opposed to consuming small rodents, so I’m sure I’ll be able to keep myself entertained.

Since my blog is extinct, I’ll have to visit this other “TU blog” more regularly! Cheers!
