The Trout Underground Turns One: World Erupts In Riotous Celebration

Let the celebrating begin. The Trout Underground is One Year Old.

Well, OK. You caught me; the Trout Underground is actually more than one year old.

In fact, it’s better than 18 months old, though its roots date back several years to the fishing reports I wrote for Chris Raine’s uppersac.com site. (Uppersac.com is now a part of the Trout Underground. Resistance is Futile).

Still, today marks the One Year Anniversary of Our First Post Using Wordpress blog software (I later grandfathered in a few earlier posts from the Web site to maintain continuity).

Prior to that, the loyal Undergrounders couldn’t leave comments, couldn’t become a part of the discussion, and couldn’t be general all-around smartasses.

Certainly, the world would be the poorer for the lack of more all-around smartassess, so it was yet another brilliant decision on my part.

I’d Like to Thank The Academy

Given the pennies-per-hour revenues generated by the Underground’s extensive online advertising, there’s no doubt the Trout Underground is a labor of love.

Still, it’s one made possible only by its readers, commentors, guest posters, casual visitors, and a regular cadre of mental institution escapees.

I started it for all sorts of reasons, but you can find the best of them on the “Why?” page — home of the Trout Underground’s Manifesto.

The Future

Who knows? I am planning to put a new “theme” in place (the look and feel of the site) that betters utilizes today’s wider screens. And I’ve heard from a few advertisers who are interested in appearing here, providing a tiny bit of plausible deniability when I ask myself why I spend all this time here instead of writing words for money.

And I’d dearly love to go to a multi-blog format, but that entails technical know-how (and a time investment in maintenace) far beyond my capabilities. Still, I’m keeping my eyes open.

See you at the Birthday Cake, Tom Chandler.

Congrats, Tom. Shamefully, I’ve done a whole lot more of reading your blog than actually fly fishing in the past year. This next year, the ratio will change, but not because I’ll be reading your blog any less. Best, Will

Will: Send pictures. Interested in seeing what the water up your way looks like.

Mom! Busy is good, but I find that honest work cuts deeply into my spare time. I probably should have gone into politics instead.

I only recently started reading and have enjoyed the general attitude. Where I live, its a long drive to the closest trout stream so this site serves as some sort of substitute to fishing on the great number of days that I’m doing stuck doing something productive.

Your writing is friendly and engaging, the banter amusing.

However, witnessing your Mom’s gentle chiding was priceless.

Here’s hoping next year will bring you nickles per hour…

    Tom,
Happy 1 year! If I coluld I would invest millions but I am just a student.

The TroutUnderground is absolutley amazing! Thank you so much for keeping semi-connected to Mt Shasta and fly fishng. It is your passion that comes through and that is why I read it everyday. And of course to catch a glimpse of the Wonderdog.
