Friday’s Fuzzy Thinking at the Underground: An Open Thread
By Tom Chandler on Apr 20, 2007 in Underground Entertainment
The last couple of weeks, the work projects have been many, and the fishing trips have been few.
And given the number of words that have to appear on the screen before I head to Tennessee next Friday, there aren’t going to be many upcoming fishing trips.
But yes, this weekend, I will fish. Will you?
It’s the Underground’s First Open Thread. Who’s fishing this weekend? Or do you have something else on your mind?
Lean back on the therapist’s couch, close your eyes, and let us know. We’re listening.

Negative, Sir.
Likely this weekend will be spent in the ritualistic debauchery that results from only being a week away from the Trout Season Opener.
Wherein, the angler reviews and replaces three quarters of the contents of his vest, ties umpteen dozen “can’t miss” flies, and then finally finds the source of that sour smell in the closet…
…it was that mangled Tofu and Watermelon sandwich you forgot you putin the the large rear pocket of your vest.
You can’t wash the vest, as it will remove the bloodstains, the patina of Muskol, and the assortment of barbed flies imbedded in the fabric - so you (and it) are banished from the house by an enraged spouse.
You spend the balance of the weekend clutching your vest like Linus’s security blanket, scratching pitifully on the front door, hoping she will repent.
That’s what I’ll be doing.

kbarton: You’ve unwittingly touched on one of the benefits of fly fishing. When you fish only artificials, there’s little risk that you’ll mistakenly lose the lid of a four year-old bottle of Pautzke’s Salmon Eggs — the half-used jar that’s been living (and growing) right next to the heater outlet since last year.

Yes!!!!! Finally! I’m headed to Trinity river tomorrow for two days of fishing. The reprorts are slow, but it doesn’t really matter it’s been a long week!
Happy fishing!

Yes,
I will be headed to South Boulder Creek on Sunday to get in a little brook trout fishing. Hopefully the ice is off and the flow is decent.
Good luck to all.

All depends on the weather.
If it’s sunny I’ll fish stoneflies.
Cloudy? The big mays will pour off.
BTW- nice take-a-load-off thread.
What’s next- “What’s your favorite fly?” Oh wait…

No, I thought I’d revive the “fast” vs “slow” fly rod controversey — the one where I hint that those fishing with fast fly rods do so because they’re inferior casters.
But that would probably only work on a message board.

I am not fishing this week-end, but may play hookie from work mid-week to fish the Smith in VA.
I an interesting thread might be the craziest thing a guide has every done/said.

Hey there
I live out in Sully’s neck of the woods. I will spend a few hours saturday on the Ruby and getting ready for some guests who are coming to fish next week…Sunday is my long work day but Monday is my Sabbath so I’ll be on the river all day

Woo-hoo. It’s Saturday. It’s cool, cloudy, and raining lightly in Mt. Shasta. And it’s time to go fishing.
You’ll find me chasing rising fish this afternoon (or at least the hope for some).
More as it happens.

Trout fishing? Soon, I hope. Saturday was spent with good friends, bagging 23 Chukar in the central valley. I had to put 500 miles on my new ring and pinion, before towing the travel trailer. I did take a look at Putah Creek yesterday, but the thought of spreading the mudsnail infestation has just ruined it for me. You might see me on the upper sac next weekend.

Nah, we went and counted sage grouse on their leks in SW MT for NWF. Wanted to spend some time on the Beaverhead, but tore the deck off a friends house and at least talked fishing. Bitterroot running flat and looking good.
