Yesterday I received an e-mail from a trip coordinator looking for suggestions. Which just became a question for the Undergrounders.
Her firm was taking its best customers on a two-day fly fishing junket in May, and wanted a luxury destination–a place where the sports could enjoy excellent (guided, I assume) fly fishing while the non-fly fishers and spouses would be pampered.
Frankly, I’d rather contribute to Nestle’s latest “strong-arming” strategy session than spend too much time at a luxury resort, but hey–let’s help this poor woman out.
Given that the company’s based in the USA, the trip’s only two days of fishing (so traveling three days to Christmas Island is probably out), and she wants this to happen in May.
What would you suggest?

If they want east coast: Glendorn. It’s a Relais and Chateaux property. It’s in NW PA and very oddly just minutes from downtown Bradford. But it is swanky. Extremely swanky.

Oenophile, I was going to suggest Greenbriar. Never fished up there but it seems like native brookie territory.
I also don’t know specifically about the fishing here, but Lake Placid, NY is a stunningly beautiful place, the season is right and the resort hotels there are top notch.

May is a tough month. Run off is high. There places in the SE US for trout fishing and nice things for the wife. I think the best choice however, is to skip the trout and go for tarpon, snook, red fish, jacks and such.
So, the Naples, Florida Ritz Carlton would be the winner IMMHO. The trip would need to be tied in with a guide service which the Ritz will provide. Fishing is outstanding that time of year in the 10,000 Islands, Everglades area. The Ritz is well, the Ritz: a spa, very nice beach and pool, lots of nearby shopping. The concierge can provide lots of extra activities.

Nemicolin Woodlands Resort in SW Pennsylvania…resortish type stuff and guided fishing on some local PA waters around Ohiopyle. Frank Loyd Wright’s very famous house is also just up the road.

Blackberry Farm. Perfect weather that time of year to hit the water in TN The fishing on the property is good, but gets boring fairly quickly, unless you are a member of the Spring Ridge Club. When it does, Townsend and the GSMNP is just down the road. Lots of stuff for the non-fishing folks to blow cash on as well..
