Orvis Funds Conservation Grants: Application Deadline April 16
By Tom Chandler on Mar 22, 2007 in Environment, News
In a stunning example of what happens when a fly fishing company actually reaches out to the blogosphere, we’re happy to tell the world that Orvis is once again funding Conservation Grants.
You have a conservation project? Want money for it? Orvis is giving the green stuff away:
Grants have generated as much as $100,000.00 for the receiving organization. Orvis features the organizations awarded in our catalogues and on our website. Customers are encouraged to donate to these organizations, then Orvis matched the amount up to a predetermined award. Contributions are usually matched AGAIN by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, pending their approval of the proposal.
If Trout Underground readers would like to apply, there is more information online at: http://www.orvis.com/detail.asp?subject=7&index=20
Please check out www.orvis.com/conservation to get an idea of what kind of proposals we fund.
There. That wasn’t so hard. They do something nice. We let the world know.
Wonder when the rest of the fly fishing industry will follow suit?
Theories about the industry’s blogo-phobia (as postulated by the Undergrounders) are welcomed in the comments section below.
See you at the blog, Tom Chandler.

Thanks for picking this up, Tom.
I just want to point out for those that may go to the link and see the deadline listed as being APRIL 1, that it was recently extended to the 16th… the website will be updated this evening.
We get many applicants every year, and select only three… so good luck!!

Orvis is not alone.
Patagonia has awarded over 20 million in environmental grants since 1985. Interested organizations can find all the details on the Patagonia website under environmental activism.

OK, Patagonia receives credit for giving away the bucks and for starting their own blog, but still little contact with the outdoor blogs.
The rest of fly fishing industry receives a brown star for not realizing the blogging world exists.

Can the money be used for legal battles with…say…Nestle or Westlands?
James Hathaway | Mar 23, 2007 | Reply
Hi Will-
The grants are restricted to conservation efforts such as habitat restoration.
Proposals cenered around advocacy or political campaigns are not funded.
Thanks!
James

“What are you rebelling against AHW?”
“What’ve you got?”

Do you have grants covering habitat restoration and related educational programs?
Tom Chandler | Apr 27, 2008 | Reply
Elizabeth; You’d have better luck going to the Orvis Conservation page and asking:
