Trout Unlimited Digs Into Groundwater Pumping

With water diversions for bottling plants a hot topic here on the Underground, Alert Rod Building Reader Chris Raine mentioned a related article in the Trout Unlimited magazine.

A quick search of their site turned up A GLASS HALF FULL (it’s a pdf file) - an in-depth look at water diversion policies (and disasters) in New England).

It’s well-written and revealing – and many of the same problems apply to Northern California too.

For example, groundwater pumping is little regulated, yet that water eventually runs into a stream or river somewhere. Without considering that impact, how can rivers and streams be protected?
