We’re fly fishers, so we rarely hike any trail that doesn’t end at a stream or lake.

Yet it might astound you to learn the world is filled with people who hike just to see what’s around the corner. As shocking as that might seem, the hiking blogs are still worth a look. There’s even one that might help spring you for a fishing trip later in the year…

Tom Mangan
Some oddballs hike just to photograph scenes like this. Inexplicable, but apparently it’s accepted by society at large.

Besthike.com

One of my favorites is besthike.com – a blog dedicated to finding the world’s absolute best hikes. Heavy on the stunning photographs and long on the kind of hiking adventure I’d never undertake (short of a couple beers and the promise of 20″ brook trout), I freely admit to checking this one every day.

Two-Heel Drive

Another is Tom Mangan’s Two-Heel Drive, which aggregates the best hiking news, and offers a refreshing dose of perspective too.

WineHiker

Finally, those in the Bay Area seeking a weekend partner-friendly activity that will build desperately needed “spousal points” you can redeem for a later fishing trip, visit the Winehiker Web site and blog – a site devoted to hikes which inevitably end with good food and wine.

(Chicks dig that stuff. Guys do too).

Sure – other fly fishing sites might help you fish better, but are they helping you get out to fish more? See you hiking, Tom Chandler.
