Waterproof Camcorder? Isn’t it Time for The RodCam?
By Tom Chandler on Nov 20, 2006 in Underground Entertainment, gear
From those minions of mirth over at GetOutdoors comes this product notice - the Oregon Scientific ATC2K waterproof video camera for only $130.

Am I alone in thinking that some well-heeled member of the Underground needs to purchase this camera and then create fly fishing’s first “RodCam” feature-length film?
Imagine the thrills and spills of dangerous wading. Imagine the stomach-churning vertigo of the casting stroke.
Imagine the rod bending deeply as you skitter another 9″ trout across the water… right into your Net Cam.
And for a fish-eye’s view, imagine attaching this bad boy to one of your wading boots?
You know, I’d do it in a second if I didn’t have this high-priced blog to support (and if I understood video at all). Still, we’re talking Trout Film Noir. I’m considering it.

a little problem with the URL link there, but I found it. It really does seem like a good value, and mounting it on the net would make for some cool shots I think. Or strap it to a freshly caught trout (with a paper strap so after a period of time it dissolves and you get your camera back) and get the trout’s view of your fly as he ignores it because you just caught him a minute ago and strapped a camera to his back!

REI is backordered :-(
I ordered direct from Oregon Scientific just a few minutes ago. Video with the “Steelhead Cam” (strapped around my cold weather beanie) coming soon!
