Good Guys Win One for the Gunnison: Dewatering Halted.

I missed this announcement the first time, but the Interior Department’s attempt to hand over the federal government’s Gunnison River water rights to Colorado cities and businesses was stymied by a lawsuit.
After winning the court battle, conservationists stocked 85,000 rainbow fingerlings in the river to reverse the effects of six years of whirling disease.

Too bad part of it’s already a public land reservoir. I’m planning a backpacking trip out in that area for late spring. The Wiminuche Wilderness actually. Sure to be a good time!

Always good. We’ll have to see what happens, but after our recent snowstorm, I don’t if your Thanksgiving hike back to Seven Lakes will be possible.
I’ll try to get a sense of that before you get here.

Thanks for sharing the good news! I was able to fish the Gunnison in the park a couple of times this past summer and it was awesome to say the least. I’m glad the good guys won for a change…
