Moldy Chum – who apparently has little else to do – posted a sales video for what might be the worst fishing product ever invented.
It’s a virtual fishing simulator that shows you video of fish eating lures while you hold a rod that bucks as if you were fighting a fish. The reel even screams.
We are not making this up.
Not a word of it. Nothing. Nada.
Marathon Shrimp
Then there’s the Shrimp Treadmill courtesy of Ass Hooked Whitey, which was hilarious until we realized this is probably happening courtesy of your tax dollars being invested in mutli-bazillion dollar Shrimp Fitness Research.
Again, we are not making this up.
We only wish we were.

…..,…….;…….what the hell? It’s just a shrimp?! On a treadmill?! Perhaps this place has deadened some of my humorous senses, but shrimp? Come on now!

Shrimp? Treadmill? That’s pure comedy gold. Gold.

I downloaded a fly fishing simulator from http://www.flysim.com. I hate to admit this but its actualy kind of fun, once you get the hang of it. I spend enough time on the computer as it is, so I should know better. One of the things I have done in my software career is work on various simulators (flight, tank, driving, and even bob sledding for the Olympic team), so I kind of have an odd interest in them.
I would guess it might help a bad case of the winter blues.

OK, that shrimp is funny, but the funniest part is that it is preceeded by a commercial for the benefits of science. I know that research shouldn’t be limited to areas of practical application, but at some point I have to ask, how is this experiment benefiting humanity? I guess we do get a treadmill that works underwater!?

I don’t know, I kind of like the idea. It would work well for all the days of working in the basement.

This is a bit funny. Follow the link and then click the “high flying rainbow link”. It breaks the tippet.

At the ISE shows in the mid 80′s, a company named Scotty’s Downriggers, if I remember correctly, had something very similar to the virtual fishing simulator in their booth. They also had video of salmon striking anchovies rigged with what I think was called the rotary salmon killer. It seemed very state of the art and they drew large crowds.
You’re right about the shrimp Tom. Absolute gold.

I wept slightly when one of the gentleman on the simulator video talked about the “perfect fishing conditions” INDOORS. Hey, why bother going to the trouble of fishing at all? Maybe I can hire someone to go fishing for me…

I guess that conditions *were* perfect for him. Another “outdoorsman” in the truest sense…
