From the ever-vigilant folks at FlyFishMagazine comes this news about an upcoming fly fishing TV show: Location X.
Here’s the plan (in the producer’s words).
We blindfold world class anglers. Fly them in. Drive them to the water. And share shocking footage of giant tarpon swimming at the boat in clear water – daring us to cast a fly. The location will not be revealed out of respect for the fishery, but we will show you every sparkling detail.
“World class anglers?” They haven’t invited the Underground yet, how “world class” could this show possibly be?

World class anglers would all ready know the location. Duh…..trick question. Like anyone writing for a magazine would know what’s up. Ooops….I did it again.

I agree. They should take some poor trout fisherman and drop him in the middle of a big school of tarpon with his 4 weight and some size 22 midges. Now that would be good TV!
Excellent suggestion. And I think *I* should be that person.
Like most of FlyFisherman Magazines efforts this will be all gloss and polish, served up to the “white wine and Brie” crowd.
Why take “World Class Anglers” to a good spot, hell – anybody could catch fish there…I would rather them show me some of their mettle attempting to dredge anything edible form a pothole on the Interstate.
…and what exactly is a World Class Angler? Likely it is some effete, photogenic, corporate VIP, whose company just assaulted us during the last commercial, hawking generic Viagra or horsemeat hamburgers.
Ten Thousand Blistering Barnacles in a Thundering Typhoon! If you must sell us out, at least offer some fare that we can watch without choking on our Slaw Dawg.
I think the show is being produced by the same people (Howard Films) that did “Chasing Silver” and “In Search of a Rising Tide” – not Fly Fisherman.
I found this at the “FlyFishMagazine” blog, which might be causing the confusion.
That said, I rarely watch fishing shows because I spend most of my time yelling at the tube. Which reminds me of a rant I wrote last January (before we went to blog software) so maybe I’ll post it again.
I know “a guy who knows a guy” from the crew, and he said that the HowardFilms guys used “seasoned” anglers, and that they were unsure of the nebulous ‘worldclass’ tag that had been floated about themselves…he also said it was anything but a layup – given it was with a fly rod only, and the fish were knocking the anglers (right off the plane) silly :-)
So you know…
Jamie Howard is a flyfisherman. A trouthead at that. His background is in advertising at some of the more prestigious agencies with some big name accounts. So, on one hand the “worldclass” tag may be part marketing, but then on the other hand if you’ve seen the company he’s kept with his previous movies, I would say he can rightly throw the term worldclass around as appropriately as anyone else.
You guys are retarded….this is the best footage of people gettin thier ass kicked on fly that there has ever been. I dont expect you to understand we actually use the backing on our fly reels.
Hot stuff. A couple of anonymous experts without a sense of humor. Who the hell is “you” and “we” again?
lighten up… that footage was sick! YOU all are getting jaded…30 years of BS fishing shows and one guy (howard) spends 4 years going into debt (he was not corporate sponsored from what i hear) ..he’s shooting from helicopters and flats boats round the clock for all things Silver…this ain’t gonna happen again anytine soon…enjoy! and yeah, he is a serious fisherman – not a passerby. kinda like warren miller with skiing i guess.
Location X is out on DVD……
just found it on howardfilms.com
all from here!
Come on folks, who cares about the label “World Class”, the footage is the real deal when it comes to putting in the time to catch a Tarpon. If you’ve been there, you can feel their pain. There’s absolutely nothing easy about Tarpon fishing, except that I’ve never seen such friendly fish that twist and turn on the fly like those X fish.
Get the facts straight ya dolt.
For some reason, this thread has turned kinda rank, so I’m closing the comments.
