It’s Friday; do you know where your bikini is?

The Underground isn’t a competitive place, but I can’t help but feel bested by those opportunists at the GetOutdoors blog, who posted a photo of a woman in a bikini alongside a fly fishing story we both ran. And then my RSS feed relays a story about sexy black lace panties for iPod users.

What do I get to post about? Reports from Chris Raine about dry fly fishing, Ian Rutter about massive catches of smallies and sunfish on poppers, and pictures of colorful Montana trout from Kent Schick, who still hasn’t invited me along. It’s fun, but it ain’t sexy. Clearly, I’m losing the bikini arms race.

Today, the Underground draws the line. I’m hitting back. Hard. Picture this, GetOutdoors:

Sure, that’s not a fly rod, but if you squint real hard, you’ll find it really doesn’t matter all that much.

Now that I’ve left my competition sprawled in the dirt, red-faced and embarassed, let’s move on to fly fishing content, starting with Kent Schick, who actually did send pictures of trout from his extended trip to Montana (yes, the trip he didn’t invite me on).

On to Denver…

Meanwhile, the fly fishing industry is drinking beer by the keg in Denver, lubricating the flow of orders for goods which will ultimately fuel next year’s closeout sales.

We’ve seen precious little real information from the show (MidCurrent lists a few entries while the Flyfishmagazine blog offers a few tidbits), but we’re going to politely assume there’s more happening beyond a drunken blur of machined aluminum and stiff, high modulus graphite.

I hope everyone’s planned fun for the weekend. I’m less than a week away from another trip to Maine, and while this week has been a whirlwind of processed words and client e-mails, there’s fishing ahead – perhaps even a Sunday jaunt into the backcountry. See you at Victoria’s Secret, Tom Chandler
