The Raine Road Trip Continues…

Chris Raine and son Jack continue their road trip (presumably) after spending two days on Silver Creek in Idaho. Communication is sparse, but apparently the fishing was at least OK, and all limbs remain intact. Chris’ son Jack sent a couple of videos from his phone, and one recounted the aftermath of Chris hooking a smallish trout, which was immediately eaten by a much larger Brown Trout.

While I can’t simply plug the videos into the blog, I’m going to try and embed them into a separate Web page and see if that doesn’t fly. While I wait for more information to trickle in, I’ll leave you with this short missive from Jack about yesterday’s fishing:

“I got three, two 16″ and one 19-20″. Pop got two, a 15″ rainbow and a 16″ brown!”

Called Chris on his cell phone - in yuppie-esque fashion, he answered it from the Silver Creek Nature Conservancy section. The mornings on Silver Creek have been fishing good, but the afternoons have found the wind howling. Some BWO and PMD hatches, and Chris felt the need to use his 8′ 6wt version of a Payne 102 taper in order to handle the longer casts and bigger fish.

Story of the trip so far has been the 6″ trout that ate his dry, that was in turn eaten by a monster Brown trout (that was way too big for Chris’ net). Unfortunately, he didn’t land the bigger of the two…

He’s staying at an RV park only a mile or two from the L&T Nancy’s father’s house near Ketchum. I know that park, and if he walked through it to the edge of the Big Wood River (now blown), he’d be looking at water I’ve fished the last two winters. It’s a small world after all.

It’s another day or two on Silver Creek, then off to Island Park, a destination that doesn’t make me at all envious. Not one bit. Nada.
